The target audience is children ages four to seven. Children who do not fit gender stereotypes will relate to this book.

Evaluation:
I think this is a must read for all children. This story explores important topics including gender stereotypes, unconditional love, and individuality. The story also reflects the power of a supportive community.

Reader Response Activity:
After reading about Danny’s dream parade costume and how he made it, readers can draw their own dream costume. Then they can write about what materials they need to make the costume and where they will go to get the materials.
