Summary:
This book follows the story of a boy named Charlie and his brother Joe who is called to fight in World War II. Joe writes letters to Charlie throughout the book tells Charlie how tough life is for a soldier. When Joe is sent on a secret mission with a soldier he cannot stand, he faces dangerous risks. Charlie discovers just how brave and heroic his brother really is. Charlie uses Joe’s letters to build up his own strength and stand up against the neighborhood bullies. 

Target Audience: 
The target audience is children ages seven to ten. Children who do not get to see their siblings very often will relate to this book. Children will also relate to this book if they have experience with bullying. This book will also attract readers who like reading about wars. 

Evaluation:
This is a really good book that follows a great story. The letters between the two brothers are very meaningful and realistic. The advice Joe gives Charlie can help the readers too. 

Reader Response Activity:
This book involves a lot of letters and they play an important role in the story. Readers can write a letter of their own to a person who is important to them. Readers can reference the letters in the book as they write their own letters.
