Bully by Laura Vaccaro Seeger

APA Information: Seeger, Laura Vaccaro. Bully. Roaring Book Press, 2013.

Genre: Fiction, Children’s Literature

Reading Level: N/A

Summary:
Bull is a bully who has nothing nice to say to his friends. When Goat stands up to Bull, Bull realizes that he has become a bully. Bull changes his ways and plays with the other animals.

Target Audience:
The target audience is children in grades pre-k through kindergarten. Children who like animals will enjoy this book because all of the characters are animals. This book will relate to children who have been bullied or who have bullied someone else.

Evaluation:
This is a great book to use to introduce young children to bullying. The problems in the book are very believable. Name-calling happens all of the time in the real world. The animal characters are all diverse in physical appearance and act differently. I would highly recommend this book to young children.

Reader Response Activity:
Readers can create an epilogue that explains what the characters did after they all agreed to play with Bull. (Where did they go next? What did they play together?)
