Summary:
This book is about an Indian boy, Arnold. Arnold has a rough home life and his friends do not treat him very well. Arnold decides to leave the reservation to attend a school where the majority of the students are white. This causes the people from the reservation to view Arnold as a traitor. Arnold does not fit in at his new school and is bullied. The book follows Arnold as he tries to fit in and make friends. It ends with him back at the reservation trying to fix things with the people he left.
Target Audience:
The target audience for this book is children in grades six and up. Children will enjoy and relate to this book if they have problems at home or with friends or have trouble fitting in.
Evaluation:
I would recommend this book because it addresses many issues that children face in the real-world. Readers can understand Arnold’s personality and the reasons for his actions. The book also does a great job addressing diversity.

Students can work in small groups to identify important scenes from the book. Students can act out these scenes in front of the whole class and reflect on the importance of the scenes.
